Everyday, so many people are attracted into affiliate marketing and you might just be one of them. While affiliate marketing may be one of the most effective ways to make money online it is also a venture which if not practised properly will result in almost zero income online.
Affiliate Marketing “seems” to be a fair deal between a merchant and his affiliates since they both benefit from each sale that is generated. The merchant benefits in the sense that he gains extra exposure via his affiliates, he does not need to spend a ton of cash on advertising since that would be taken care of by his affiliates the only amount of money he might pay is the fee required to list his product or service on the affiliate company’s website for example Clickbank or Market Health.
The affiliates benefit in the sense that when a sale is made through their website, blog, Pay Per Click Campaign, email campaign etc. they get paid a certain percentage of the price of the product or they simply get paid a fixed price per action taken through them.
But I must say I think the Merchants benefit the most from this Merchant/Affiliate arrangement, the reason being that the affiliates most times might end up wasting money on PPC campaigns that are not profitable (the merchant does not have to experiment with pay per click campaigns). The affiliate might also waste precious months if he goes ahead doing Search Engine Optimization for a product that doesn’t convert well.
In affiliate marketing a great deal of the profits to be made depends on how effective the affiliate’s advertising, promotion and selling/marketing strategy is. The profits depend on the search engine being used for PPC advertising, the domain name of the affiliate site, the sites on which the affiliate advertises on etc. The affiliate has to choose his advert and promotion tactics very carefully and most times the affiliate has to test and track various campaigns before coming up with a profitable one.
So Why Do Most Affiliates Fail With Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliates fail due to the fact that:
- They register for the wrong affiliate program. Choosing the right affiliate program is imperative for the success of an affiliate. Register with a wrong affiliate program and you might end up wasting your time because you will never get paid or you will be under-paid. Before choosing an affiliate program you must be aware of how long the affiliate network’s cookie lasts, and please stay away from programs with short lifespan cookies.
They promote the wrong products/services.
They promote a product at the wrong time of the year. Some products are seasonal so you as an affiliate must be aware of that and promote at the right time of the year.
They choose a wrong domain name and website content. Your domain name and web content should be related to the offer you intend to promote.
They use wrong advertising/promotion methods.They do not do proper keyword research. Most affiliates just jump into a market without doing proper keyword research to get additional keyword related to an offer/product and also to determine the competitiveness of the market.
They focus on too many affiliate products at a given time.
They do not test and track their campaigns. If you do not test and track your campaigns then you are leaving a lot of cash on the table.
They get their SEO all wrong etc.
As an affiliate marketer, you should avoid the above mentioned pitfalls if you are to become successful. You should also be willing to learn new marketing tactics being devised everyday.
