Want to know what hours of the day the Forex Market is open for trading? Well the Forex Market is open 24 hours a day. This is one of the advantages the Forex Market has over the Stock Market.

But that is not probably the answer you were looking for. You probably would like to know the most profitable hours to do Forex Trading and when you are less likely to suffer a loss in the Forex Market. Relax as I show what the most profitable time to Trade Forex is.

The basic Forex Market Trading Hours grouped according to the region of the world that is opened for business are listed below:

  • European [London] Session     -      3 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Eastern)
  • U.S. [New York] Session     -     8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (Eastern)
  • Asian [Tokyo] Session     -     7 p.m. – 4 a.m. (Eastern)

[Please note that there will be some time adjustment during April and November]

Now if the European Forex Market session starts by 3 a.m. (Eastern) and is active until 12 p.m. (Eastern), and the U.S. Forex Market Hours are between 8 a.m. (Eastern) and 5 p.m. (Eastern), then an overlap between these two market hours will occur by 8 a.m. (Eastern) when the U.S. Market session has just begun up until 12 p.m. (Eastern) when the European Market session will end. Between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. (Eastern) is the overlapping time of the European and U.S. Forex Markets.

These overlaps can be described as the hours when two regions of the world are vigorously trading the Forex Markets. Note that the overlap also occurs between the European/Asian Markets. During these periods of overlap, a great deal of volatility and movement exists in the Foreign Exchange Market.
